Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Camp Summit has proudly served individuals with disabilities since 1947 and continues to work toward recognizing the abilities of a camper despite the labels of a disability. We hope to be able to include you and your camper into the Camp Summit family.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Camp Summit's program goal is to provide a fun camping experience for the camper regardless of the severity of their disability.
Camp Summit's campers may range in age from six to ninety-nine years old. We have experienced a unique longevity in our client base due to the fact that we have no upper age limits. Our campers may be developmentally delayed (Down syndrome, Autism, Intellectual disabilities, etc.), physically challenged (Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, paralysis, etc.), deaf blind multi-handicapped or have multiple disabilities ranging from mild to severe. At Camp Summit we never deny a campers' participation due to their inability to pay or the severity of their disability. As long as we can medically handle their needs they are welcome at camp.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Camp Summit is located on 460 beautiful acres in Paradise, Texas. Our first sessions at our newly acquired and updated camp begin Spring 2016.
What type of payments do you accept?
We realize many families have extreme costs associated with caring for your loved ones and we have NEVER turned anyone away because of a need for financial assistance.
The following is a sample listing of support groups that may be contacted for possible financial support: MHMR (contact your county Mental Health Mental Retardation), DARS – Division for Blind Services, MDCP (Medically Dependent Children Program), CLASS (Community Living and Supportive Services), Non Educational Funds from your school district, Local service/civic clubs, Other family support programs.
Check with your support organizations or doctor for agencies that offer respite support. Camp Summit provides out-of-home respite services for families that qualify for the CLASS program.
Camp Summit also offers financial aid "camperships", however these are limited so we encourage you to seek other support groups before applying.
