Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1980.
What is your primary product or service?
We specialize in refinishing all types of porcelain, cultured marble, fiberglass, acrylic, and formica surfaces, which include bathroom tubs and sinks, wall tile, countertops, and shower stalls, as well as kitchen countertops.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Back in 1980, my brothers and I paid $5000 to be trained to do bathtub refinishing by a company down in Houston. What we got was a one-week course in observation with some hands-on experience in the refinishing process (but we also had to buy their refinishing products for a year).
We took notes while we were there, and actually did some spraying, too. When we got back home, we immediately put everything we learned into practice. As we began to work, we found ways to fine-tune our skills, because we wanted to excel in this specialized area.
That was over 25 years ago. Since then, I've learned that when you're the operator of a business, as well as the owner, you have a vested interest in making absolutely sure that you are doing quality work 100% of the time, because that's the only way to ensure the best kind of free advertising there is: word-of-mouth advertising.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We believe in honesty, integrity, quality, and personal customer service. Those things, among others, have kept us in business for over 25 years. You can read some testimonials at http://sharpporcelain.com/Testimonials.htm.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Just one. Although we've done some big commercial jobs in the past, we like to keep the business small enough so that I can handle it with just one helper.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We don't have a storefront. We do our work on-site at our customers' homes. But we do have a wealth of information about our process at www.SharpPorcelain.com.
What type of payments do you accept?
Personal or company checks, cash, and credit cards if paid through a Paypal account.
Which areas do you service?
Most of the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Jim and Debbie Sharp, owners and operators.
What are your hours of operation?
We try to keep it at Monday through Friday from 9-5, but that rarely happens. :)
